Why Preset Filters Stopped Working on Solana DEX Screeners

Every popular screener ships the same handful of presets: trending, top gainers, new pairs, high volume. When thousands of traders watch identical lists, the edge those lists once offered is gone before the row even renders.

Presets are public, so they are priced in

A preset filter is a shared opinion. When a token appears in a 'Top volume 1h' list, every bot and every trader looking at that list sees it simultaneously. Automated strategies watch the same lists and react in milliseconds, so the first visible move usually belongs to them.

On a chain with sub-cent fees and 400ms blocks, the time between 'token qualifies for the preset' and 'token is crowded' has collapsed. A filter that worked in 2021 is now a lagging indicator.

Surface metrics are easy to inflate

Volume, transaction count and holder count are the three numbers presets lean on most. They are also the cheapest numbers to manufacture on Solana. A script cycling the same funds between a few wallets can print large volume for a few dollars in fees.

  • Volume can be circular — the same capital traded back and forth.
  • Holder counts can include dust wallets holding a negligible balance.
  • Transaction counts include automated retries and tiny probes.

A preset cannot tell the difference, because it only reads the headline number.

What a custom rule measures instead

A custom rule combines several measurements so one inflated number cannot carry a token through. Here is an example rule built in DeltaWall Studio:

Studio rule · Organic demand check4 clauses
  • bot_pct < 25Under a quarter of active wallets show automated timing
  • avg_trade > 200Average trade above $200, not dust probes
  • top10 < 30Top 10 wallets hold under 30% of supply
  • liq > 50000At least $50k of liquidity to exit into
Every clause must pass. If any value is not measured yet, the clause fails — it never passes on missing data.

Your thesis, not the crowd's

The point of a custom rule is not that it is more complex. It is that it is yours. Two traders with different theses should see different tokens. DeltaWall is built around that idea: you describe what you look for, and the system checks every tracked token against it.

Frequently asked

Are preset filters useless?

No. They are a fine starting point for discovery, but they rarely provide an edge on their own because everyone sees the same output.

Do custom rules guarantee profit?

No. A rule only checks measurable conditions. It does not predict price.
